Practical directions for foreign students

1. Getting information

Foreign students are welcome to the Scientific Information Department, where they can get information about all Library services in English. The Department also makes available full-text databases in English as well as encyclopedias and lexicons in foreign languages. Members of the staff help students from aboard to use the Library catalogue and find foreign books, first of all in English.

2.  Lending

Foreign students registered on the list delivered to the Library by the International Relations Office are entitled to get a library card, which is essential to lend books. It  can be obtained in the Loan Department, after presenting a passport or identity card.

The rules of lending are as follows:

  • students can lend books marked in the catalogue with the letter ,,W" and with the status ,,Dostępna" (Available).
  • the limit of books to be lended: 10
  • the lending period: 2,5 months
  • students are not eligible for lending books marked in the catalogue with letters ,,G" and ,,C" (available only in the Reading Room)

3. Using the Main Reading Room.

The library card is not necessary; readers are obliged  to present a passport or an identity card at the Service Desk and fill in the presence card.

There is free access to Polish books on shelves. Readers who are interested in books in English or other foreign languages should first find them in the catalogue (if needed - with help of the Scientific Information Department staff) and then submit the order at the Service Desk and wait a few minutes for delivery.

The Main Reading Room is not equipped with a photocopier, but there is a possibility to make photocopies in the Xerox Room. The necessary condition is to inform the Service Desk about the need of carrying the book out.

4. Using the Foreign Periodicals Reading Room.

The library card is not necessary. Readers are only asked to enter their name into the presence register. They can use all journals and newspapers on the spot and - when needed - make photocopies in the Xerox Room after reporting such need to the Service Desk and filling in a lending form. Annuals of foreign periodicals from previous years are available in the Main Reading Room (rules of ordering as above). There is no possibility to lend periodical materials.

If students have any  questions, they can contact  the Scientific Information Department or send inquiries by email: .
